Brett Ashby / About

About Mixed Multi-Media Artist. Brett Ashby Original Art born in Melbourne, AUS

Brett AshbyAshby’s art is ɛnədʒi (Energy) representing both pure and toxic, you decide, since 87.

Born 1987, Melbourne, AUS. Lives and works between Melbourne and London.
Brett Ashby works predominantly in digital video, photography, performance and installation. Ashby is best known for his digital video, photographic and skateboarding works that capture and manipulate time, energy and motion.

Contemporary, public and performance artist, painting energy from the universe while skateboarding.

Brett Ashby is an Australian artist. He started doing art in his primary years with his first exhibit in his Principles office in grade 2. He graduated with a MA Interactive Media and Animation degree in Melbourne (Australia) where his studio is based. Ashby’s work deals with motion, collage, energy, cancer and themes related to the present times. He has exhibited and resided all over Europe, America, Australia, and Asia since 2006.

The video portraits act as a complete montage of all the media in the realm of Ashby’s art making. The canvas or HD video art is only one component, blending the environmental and spatial aspects of a space with a new sensibility for Ashby’s vision. The medium is HD video but the form blurs time-based energy with the frozen moment of still painting. As in the layering nature of Ashby’s creative process, the video portraits infuse references found in painting, sculpture, dance, photography, music, animation and contemporary culture.

ɛnədʒi (Energy): The video art documents culture, space and society. The artist explores frequency and vibration in his application. Ashby makes this visible in his 3D performances, the invisible spirit made visible.
